BMI Calculator in lbs
This BMI calculator in lbs uses the imperial formula BMI = 703 × weight (lb) ÷ height (in)². It opens in imperial mode with pounds and inches selected, then displays your body mass index, the matching WHO weight category, and the healthy weight range in pounds for your height. The gauge, chart, and risk notes recalculate as you edit either field. BMI is a general screening tool rather than a medical diagnosis, athletes with high muscle mass often score in the overweight range, so combine it with other checks such as waist-to-height ratio. All calculations run locally in your browser; nothing is uploaded or stored.

What is the BMI formula in lbs? +
BMI = 703 × weight in pounds ÷ height in inches squared. For example, 154 lb and 70 in give 703 × 154 ÷ 4900 = 22.1.
How do I convert my metric BMI? +
You do not need to: switch the unit toggle to metric and enter kilograms and centimeters, or divide pounds by 2.205 and inches by 39.37 first. The result is identical.
What is a healthy BMI range? +
The WHO defines a normal BMI as 18.5-24.9, underweight below 18.5, overweight from 25 to 29.9, and obesity at 30 or above.
What BMI ranges are considered healthy? +
A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered normal weight. Below 18.5 is underweight, 25-29.9 is overweight, and 30+ is obese.
Does the tool account for age and gender? +
The standard BMI formula does not factor in age or gender. The tool provides the standard WHO classification and notes its limitations.
What is the difference between metric and imperial BMI? +
The formula is the same. Only the input units differ. Metric uses kg/m², while imperial uses lbs/in² multiplied by 703.
Is BMI accurate for athletes? +
BMI does not distinguish between muscle and fat. Athletes with high muscle mass may have a "overweight" BMI despite being very fit.
