Page order, ranges and bookmarks

Reordering pages is simple until a document has structure attached to it. The page order itself is stored as a tree of page objects, and changing it rewrites that tree, so tools that support ranges let you move blocks rather than dragging hundreds of thumbnails. Range syntax is the efficient path: expressions such as 1-3,7,10-12 let you select and move groups at once, and the same syntax makes it easy to reverse a section or interleave two halves of a scanned document. What needs checking afterwards is everything that refers to page positions. Bookmarks and the table of contents store destination page numbers, so after a shuffle they can point at the wrong page; some tools update them, many do not.
